Frequently asked questions

Many sources report vaping to be less harmful than smoking tobacco. Research shows vapour from electronic cigarettes contain much fewer harmful chemicals than cigarette smoke, however, vaping does still pose some serious health risks.

Vaping is addictive and, like smoking tobacco, has risks associated with respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, stroke, diabetes and gastrointestinal disorders.

Currently, the evidence on safety and effectiveness of vaping has been mixed and insufficient, highlighting the need for additional research.

Concern about the short term risks of vaping (months to a few years) originated from people smoking vapes containing THC (an ingredient in cannabis) and vitamin E acetate, a thickening agent. As of January 2020, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed  that 60 people had died from e-cigarette or vaping product use associated lung injury (known as EVALI). These cases predominantly affected people who had either modified their vaping devices, or used black market modified e-liquids that contained THC, and in particular, vitamin E acetate.

Products supplied via prescriptionvapes.com.au have been checked against TGO110, meaning we have assessed that they meet the required quality standards for vaped nicotine and do not contain THC or vitamin E Acetate.

Select pharmacies can dispense nicotine prescriptions in Australia. However, the only way to get a prescription is from a doctor. If you want to fill your prescription at a local or online provider (such as prescriptionvape.com.au), then the doctor must apply to the TGA to become an authorized prescriber of vaping products. At prescriptionvape.com.au all our doctors are authorized and will assess your eligibility in a no-cost virtual consultation. If you are eligible, they will give you a prescription, and you can purchase vaping products here in Australia.

Yes. A pack a day smoker can spend up to $50 a day. A person using prescription vaped nicotine can expect to pay around $5 a day for a similar level of nicotine consumption.
